A few years ago I stumbled upon some recordings by Danny Silk called Culture of Honor. In my opinion, Silk’s teachings are, by far, the most practical and enriching relationship advice on the market. Last week was an intense week for our family in terms of relationships. There were moments where my words could either cause further pain or open the door for restoration and healing. I’m convinced that someone greater was watching over me when I, again, stumbled over this quote from Danny Silk’s facebook page in the midst of an emotional time for our family. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Danny-Lee-Silk/121990546910

“Honor focuses on empowering the people around us, no matter who they are, or what their gender, age, status or role. Honor is led by love. And when we honor, we are protecting and nurturing our connections with each other. Our goal is to establish and maintain authentic relationship, rather than dominate another person. Honor communicates, ‘My relationship with you is more important than you doing what I want you to do.”

We were created from love, for love, in order to be love. I will not tell you that this is easy, especially in the face of disagreements, hurts, and deep wounds. But I will tell you that once I came to my senses last week about my identity from above, I was able to embrace this relationship with a kingdom love…heaven’s love…yeah, that happened. 🙂

I highly recommend any of Danny Silk’s books. Culture of Honor, Loving Your Kids on Purpose, Keep Your Love On: Connection Communication and Boundaries are my favorites.
